Mark 8:31-38 “The Path of Descent”

The disciples have been trying to understand the difference between their expectations and Jesus’ actual mission. Jesus has spoken a lot through healings and metaphors that point to the deeper purpose of his mission. Now he speaks to them very clearly in words they may rather not hear. Peter resists Jesus’ revelation, and he receives Jesus’ rebuke. We too sometimes resist the seemingly descending path God has for us, but the path of descent is the only one that leads to resurrection.
