Message: Villains of the Bible: Samson & Delilah
Scripture: Judges 16:1-6, 15-22
In the story of the Samson & Delilah, Delilah is the villain, but it
is Samson who failed to live the life God called him to. The meaning
of their names says it all: Samsons was supposed to represent the
‘light’ while Delilah represents the ‘darkness.’ The problem is that
Samson neglected the call to be ‘set apart’ and was instead found
sleeping in the lap of ‘darkness.’ How are we doing in our call to be
‘set apart’ as God’s children and light bearers?
Recap of Sermon Series Overview:
The new series is called “Villains of the Bible.” In this series we
are going to look at some of the people we typically think of as ‘bad
guys.’ Yet these stories are in the Bible for an important reason. We
are supposed to see ourselves even in their lives. Their temptations
are our temptations. In their lives, we see our own human potential
for making poor decisions. Surprisingly, we’ll also see God’s goodness
and grace. We’ll better understand what God is seeking to protect us
from and the life He is calling us toward. Our first ‘villain’ is
Cain.
