Psalm 110:1-4 “David’s Messiah”
Ever since the early chapters of Genesis, there have been hints of a coming Messiah. David becomes the prototype of the Messiah to come. God promised that one of his descendants would always rule. Yet this Promise was called into question with the fall of Jerusalem in 587 BC and the end of the Davidic rule in Judah. Yet embedded in the hearts of humanity remained this longing and expectation of God’s Messiah to come and redeem this Fallen world. The downpayment came with Jesus, but we still look forward to the ultimate fulfillment of his return.
