Message: Mark 10:35-45 “Drink the Cup”

On this Servant Sunday, as we pray over and anoint our Servant Leaders for the coming year, we reflect on what Servant Leadership is. The sons of Zebedee seek for Jesus to do something for them. He reminds them that as disciples, they are called to follow him and his example. Then he gives them the surprising news that they will indeed follow in his footsteps, but it will not lead them to places of power or privilege. Instead, what is valued more highly than anything else in the Kingdom of God is loving service for the sake of others. This is how Jesus came to us and it is how he calls us to be with others.
