1 John 1:8-10 “Sayings of Saints: Dietrich Bonhoeffer”
This week, our Wisdom Saying comes from Dietrich Bonhoeffer who helps
us to look at ourselves soberly and to grow in gracious humility.
Saints never think themselves Saints, because they are deeply aware of
their own brokenness and need for grace and restoration. This is what
actually makes them Saints. Humility is not self-condemnation and does
not lead to depression. Instead, it leads us to see the heart of God
for humanity and an increased desire for genuineness and love.
Bonhoeffer’s recognition, which we seek to make our own, is discovered
in the following truth: “In me there is Darkness, but with You there is Light”.
